POL 5.435 Performance of Work at a Personal Residence
The Board of Trustees at Kirtland Community College, as an employer as well as a public service provider, has an interest in the most efficient and effective means of utilizing the skills and experience of its employees in the performance of the mission of the college. It is recognized this may involve the performance of work from locations other than on-campus office locations. It is also recognized the public service function of the college requires that employees be accessible to the college’s students and guests. It is further recognized that there are substantial benefits to staff working in proximity to colleagues and to institutional support systems.
Accordingly, it is the policy of the Board of Trustees of Kirtland Community College to permit the performance of work from a personal residence under certain limitations and understandings designed to ensure the greatest benefit to the college and the people it serves. If approved for an alternate work site, the employee is expected: to maintain appropriate levels of productivity and quality of work, and create a productive work environment/office during the agreed-upon work hours. Alternate work locations are considered extensions of the employee’s central work location during the period agreed upon by the supervisor. Employees will be required to spend time on campus each week as specified by their position.
A consistent schedule of remote work hours and days is required to ensure regular and predictable contact with college staff and others, Therefore, a specific work schedule should be agreed upon with the employee’s supervisor. Exceptions will be made when an employee’s presence is required for a function or activity that cannot be rescheduled.
The college will not be responsible for any additional costs associated with alternate work locations, such as utilities and home maintenance. The employee will be responsible for any tax implications of a home-based work location. For a home-based work location, the employee will be responsible for providing insurance coverage for college equipment and supplies. Employees must follow college-approved data security policies and procedures for protecting confidential information. The employee will be responsible for securing any materials, documents, and/or equipment transported from the college.
